Dan understands therapy can feel awkward and enjoys building rapport with each client, so they feel comfortable throughout therapy. He enjoys helping clients who struggle with anxiety learn how to take back control of their daily life and work towards gaining the ability to manage anxiety that may occur in the future. He also enjoys using his experience and guiding clients through a variety of other struggles that may impact individuals on a daily basis, such as depression, trauma, life transitions, anger, adjustments, school, work, and social issues. He has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings.
Dan earned his Masters of Science in Education from the University of Akron with a focus in marriage and family therapy and clinical counseling. Dan holds additional certifications in neruopsychotherapy, trauma, and anxiety. He uses an eclectic approach to therapy ranging from using neuropsychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, prolonged exposure, person-centered, solution-focused, structural, psychoeducation, and experiential approaches to meet clients needs. His previous behavioral and mental health experiences include working in community mental health, school-based, and private practice settings working with children, adolescents, and adults.
Dan is a military veteran and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses as part-time faculty at the University of Akron for the Child and Family Development program in addition to providing therapy.
Brian Pavelko, MSW, LISW-S, CTP
Independent Social Worker, Certified Trauma Professional
Brian uses a person-centered approach and takes the time to build positive rapport with each client. Brian enjoys working with children, adolescents, and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, anger, depression, lack of self-esteem, and works on enhancing coping strategies and reducing symptoms to improve overall quality of life. He will actively adapt his therapy approach to meet each client's needs. Approaches can include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma-Focused therapeutic approaches.
Brian earned his Masters of Social Work from the University of Akron with focus on the micro/clinical level of practice. He has experience with treating trauma through the different modalities, including Trauma Focucused-CBT, EMDR, and Structured Sensory Interventions for Children, Adolescents, and Parents (SITCAP). Brian has experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults in a variety of settings ranging from schools, doctor’s offices, and community mental health agencies.
Brian also works full-time as a Manager of Care Coordination for the OhioRISE Medicaid driven initiative that is statewide through the managed care organization Aetna and supervises a team of care coordinators.
*Availability consists of Friday evenings and Saturday mornings/early afternoon
Kristen Pavelko, M. Ed., LPCC-S, CTP-C
Clinical Counselor, Certified Trauma Professional
Kristen is an experienced and passionate Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with more than 10-years of experience specializing in trauma, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. With a focus on trauma-informed care, Kristen provides a safe space for individuals to process past experiences and develop healthy coping mechanisms to manage the impacts of trauma. Kristen utilizes a person-centered approach to meet the unique needs of each individual to foster emotional resilience and growth. Kristen’s passion lies in creating a safe and supportive environment to empower individuals to explore challenges and create lasting positive changes. Kristen enjoys working with a wide array of clients but has primarily worked with children, adolescents, and young adults. Kristen utilizes several therapeutic approaches to meet the individual’s needs such as, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), SITCAP (Structured Sensory Interventions for Traumatized Children, Adolescents and Parents), TF-CBT (Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Somatic therapy, Mindfulness, and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy).
Kristen earned both her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kent State University. Kristen is EMDR trained and is also a certified clinical trauma practitioner.
*Availability is Friday evenings and Saturday morning/afternoon.
